

Joyce was born in Duluth on May 7, 1930 to Leo and Alma (Johnson) Fontaine. She attended and graduated from Proctor High School and soon after married Charles Laurila on July 20, 1948. The couple moved to Roseville, California before returning to Proctor in 1951. Joyce took some time out to raise her family before going to work at J.C. Penneys in 1963. The family moved to Hoyt Lakes in 1967 where Joyce worked at the Hoyt Lakes Dairy Bar; and transported clients from Salmi’s Group Home to the D.A.C. In 1992 Joyce and her husband retired in Hermantown. Joyce was a wonderful cook who loved to spend time tending to her yard and flower garden. She enjoyed arts & crafts, camping, fishing and snowmobiling. Joyce was a wonderful mother who wanted the best for her children and grandchildren. Her loving and courageous spirit will be deeply missed.
She is preceded in death by her husband Charles and her parents.
Joyce is survived by her children, Wendy (Gary) Wahlgren of Winter Garden, Fl, Bruce (Cindy) Laurila of Hermantown, MN, Charles (Gene) Laurila Jr. of Hoyt Lakes, MN, Steven (Sally) Laurila of Colorado Springs, CO; grandchildren, Brent, Andrea, Amy, Kevin, Chad, Kelly and Mauricio; great-granddaughter, Katelyn; sisters, Darlene (Augustine) Baldonado of Aurora, MN, Audrey (Wayne) Johansen of Duluth, Lois (Wayne) Noe of Elizabeth, CO as well as many other family members and friends.
Visitation will be held from 10 A.M. until the 11 A.M. Mass of Christian Burial on Thursday, September 15, 2011 at St. Raphael’s Catholic Church 5779 Seville Rd.
