Kate graduated in 1976 from Castleton State College, in Castleton, VT, with a nursing degree. She worked at the Rutland Regional Medical Center until early 1989 as an ICU and ER nurse. During these years she met and married John Fowler from Rutland, Vt and they had one son, Kevin.
After her husband's death, Kate and her son moved to Duluth, MN in 1989 to be near family. She continued her nursing career with Miller Dwan Medical Center as an acute dialysis and burn unit nurse. In 2005, she became an ER nurse with Essentia East, St. Mary’s Hospital, in Superior WI until she became ill in 2015. Kate was known in the community as a knowledgeable and caring nurse and a fun-loving good friend.
Kate loved sunny days and only rainy ones so she didn’t have to water her garden.
She loved traveling, art, music, a good mystery, knitting, and all 154 episodes of The Big Bang Theory. Most of all she loved her cats, her friends, and her family. And they loved her.
Kate is preceded in death by her husband, John Fowler of Rutland VT and her beloved grandmother, Inez Romer from Virginia, MN.
Kate is survived by her son, Kevin (Nicole) Christiansen; mother, Bernadine Martin; father, Kenneth (Amalia) Christiansen; brother, Ken Christiansen; sisters, Barbara Boehne and Karen Christiansen; nephews, Corey and Nick; a special aunt, Diane Fitzgerald; and relatives in Minnesota, California and Sweden.
In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Solvay Hospice House, 801 Baylis Street, Duluth, MN 55811.
Visitation: 1:00 until the 2:00 p.m. memorial service Thursday, July 12, 2018 at Bell Brothers Jarvi Dowd funeral home, 925 East 4th Street, Duluth, MN. Inurnment will be in Forest Hill Cemetery.
