Stanley Glumac, Sr. 90, of Duluth, died Thursday, March 28, 2013. He passed away quietly at his home surrounded by family. He was born on June 14, 1922, to Steve and Staka Glumac. He was a lifelong resident of the Duluth area. He married Millie, the love of his life; celebrating 36 years together before her passing in 1984. Together they had seven children. Stanley was a member of the 12th Armored Division and the 714th Battalion, serving in WWII. He was a member of the St. George Serbian Orthodox Church, where he was active in the Men’s club. He worked 30 years for the City of Duluth as a mason, a grader operator, and eventually became a foreman for the Public Works Dept. He was also active in the Gary-New-Duluth Community Club. Stanley loved to barbeque for the church, family, and friends. He became well known for his sauerkraut, which always tasted better prepared in the wood barrel. In his younger days he enjoyed fishing and bowling. Stanley had a gift of making something out of nothing. He loved to work in the garage, enjoyed cutting wood, built his own home, and would help others with “fix it” projects. Stanley always had a positive attitude and encouraged all people he met. He always had a smile on his face. He loved watching his children and grandchildren at all sporting events. He enjoyed a special day in September 2012 when he went with fellow Veterans on the Honor Flight to Washington D.C. Stanley was preceded in death by his wife, Millie; his parents; sisters, Dorothy, Violet, Naida, and Sonya; brother, Nick; and granddaughter, Alyssa Glumac.
