Jean Gibson

Born June 24, 1920 in Melville SK, died February 9, 2017 in the Royal Jubilee Hospital, Victoria BC. She was predeceased by Cecil, her loving husband of 53 years on May 1, 1999, by her brothers Howard and Fred, and her sister Mary Chapiel. Dearly loved mother of Roger (Valerie) and Ann (Jim Conacher), grandmother of Daniel (Sarah Anne Brown) and Pamela Rousseau and great grandmother of Cecilia, Alexa, Annika, Nathan, Ryler, Preston and Willow. She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Living in Winnipeg for over forty years, Jean worked for the Federal Government for nine years and Eaton’s for twenty-three years. Jean and Cecil moved to Vancouver Island in 1982 to be closer to her two grandchildren. She was an active member of the Anglican Church Women and the church of St John the Divine for many years. Jean will be missed by her family and friends both at the church and Rose Manor where she lived the past ten years.

The family would like to thank the staff of Rose Manor as well as Dr NPA Fairhurst and Dr Meeta Patel for caring for Mom so well these past years. In addition, the staff of the Royal Jubilee Hospital, Fifth Floor North West and also Dr Alexandra Otto who gave Mom such excellent care in the last week of her life.

Memorial Service will be held at 1 p.m. on February 22, 2017 in the Church of St John the Divine, 1611 Quadra St, Victoria. In lieu of flowers, donations made be made to the charity of one’s choice.
