Our mother passed away on Tuesday, April 7, 2015, at the age of 82. To all those who knew her, mom was a very loyal, calm, brave, incredibly strong and deeply principled woman. It was always an interesting journey meeting Joan and getting to understand the complex woman she was. Sadly, Joan was predeceased by her husband of 45 years, George and her eldest daughter, Cheryl Meyer (Don). Mom will be deeply missed by her remaining children; Heather (Sandy), Ron, Gord (Sharon), and Rick (Lisa) as well as her most cherished grandchildren; Ted, Cathy, Ricki-Lee, Wyatt, Andrea, Jackie and T.J., great grandchildren; Cayla, Shaya and Nash and her great-great granddaughter Mayssa. Joan loved her grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great granddaughter more than anything else in life, she even adopted a few honourary grandchildren along the way, and was so very proud of each one them and all that they had become! Joan will also be missed by her three brothers; Al, Ron (Norma) and Brooke (Linda) and numerous nieces and nephews, all of whom were important to her and Joan made sure they knew it by never forgetting a birthdate. Mom was also a true friend to many people who will remember her fondly and be glad they were a part of her life.
Joan was raised in the small community of Glenora, by her parents, Victor and Lilian Williams. Following her marriage to George, they moved together with their three small children to Edmonton, Alberta where they resided for a few short years before returning to mom’s beloved Glenora. Once in Glenora, they soon moved to a small farm where they continued to raise their five children. While George worked in the logging industry, Joan got a job with the Cowichan School District as an educational assistant. Until the day she retired this was a job that Joan loved getting up and going to each and every day. Once retired, Joan became an active member of many community groups and dedicated herself to a life of fitness and healthy living. Following retirement Joan was also fortunate enough to travel extensively across Canada, into the United States and through much of Europe, fulfilling a lifelong dream.
It was mom’s final wish that in lieu of flowers, donations please be made in her honour, to the Cowichan Sports Complex. Please make donations, “ in memory of Joan Bronson” at Chesterfield Sports Society, 5847 Chesterfield Avenue, Duncan BC, V9L 3M3
Joan’s family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the loving, caring staff at Cerwydden Care for their kindness during moms last months of life. Your support and loving care of our mother will never be forgotten! Also, we’d like to extend a huge thank you to The Hospice Society for the time and empathy their volunteers gave to us and our mom during her final days.
The family would like to invite anyone who would like to join us in remembering Joan, to a special Celebration of Life at Glenora Community Hall, in Glenora on Sunday, April 19, 2015 at 2:00 pm.
