It is with profound sadness that the family of Marjorie (Betty) Wright announce her peaceful passing surrounded by family on July 4, 2022 at the age of 94 years. Betty will be lovingly remembered by her five children, fourteen grandchildren and eighteen great-grandchildren.
She was predeceased by her loving husband, Jim Wright, of 72 years in 2017.
Betty was born in Sydenham, Kent, England youngest daughter of Albert and Elizabeth Wilmer.
Betty joined the Royal Women’s Naval Service during the Second World War. While visiting on the south coast of England she met Jim Wright, a Canadian soldier who was recovering from wounds received in Holland. Before Jim was to be shipped back to Canada he and Betty married in November 1945. Betty travelled to Canada months later and joined the ranks of the British war brides. They settled on the farm in Tisdale, Saskatchewan, Betty embraced her new life on the farm and was a proud new Canadian.
The family moved to Moosomin, Saskatchewan and finally to Regina, Saskatchewan where Betty became an active volunteer and shared her wonderful singing voice with various choirs with friends and family. Betty discovered Transcendental Meditation in the 70’s and it became a cornerstone to her life. Betty has a lifelong love for animals and was an avid supporter. Betty was a “fitness freak’ and could be found most days at the local Y where she met many young women who she remained in touch with for many years. Jim’s job was corporate secretary of the three prairie wheat pools. Betty was kept busy raising five children and was fortunate enough to accompany Jim overseas to many countries. On one trip to India they met Indira Ghandi.
Betty and Jim moved to Arbutus Ridge on Vancouver Island after Jim’s retirement sand lived there for over 20 years remaining active with golf and all the Island had to offer. Their final residence was at Sunrise Senior Living in Victoria.
Betty was most proud of and shared a deep feeling of mutual love with her grandchildren. Nothing made her more happy than to hear stories of their “shenanigans’ and later proudly attended weddings and help new born great-grandchildren.
The family would like to thank the Sunrise staff for their care and compassion for Betty.
