Robert (Rob) Charles Hokanson passed away in his sleep at home in Cobble Hill, BC, in the early morning hours of February 18, 2026, at the age of 80. Born in Epsom, England, during the end of the Second World War, he joined his mother Irene on their journey to Canada in April 1946, as they steamed their way over to Canada to be with his father Ernest in Alberta and began a life of success in Western Canada in both business and personal pursuits. He was a teacher, principal, hog farmer, real estate agent, boat broker, commercial fisherman, business executive, and marine owner/operator. His hobbies included golf, chess, woodworking, reading, and, later in life, playing the stock market. He was a devoted father and husband who maintained his independence until the very end, and who will be terribly missed by all who knew and loved him. A man of deep thought, he also had a great sense of humour, often quoting W.C. Fields, who said, “It's a funny old world. A man's lucky if he gets out of it alive.” He is predeceased by his brothers Bruce and Paul, his parents Ernest and Irene, and survived by his wife of 59 years, Carrie, his children Aaron, Jacob, and Leah, his daughters-in-law Tanya and Jenny, his seven grandchildren Bryn, Leif, Scarlett, Vera, Maya, Lilly, and Zach, his brother John, his sisters Sue, Joan, Margaret, and Leah, their spouses, and his many nieces and nephews. A celebration of life is being planned for 2:00 to 5:00 pm on Saturday, April 18, 2026, at the Arbutus Ridge Golf Club in Cobble Hill, BC.
