Terry was surrounded by his family as he passed in the Cowichan District Hospital in Duncan on March 25, 2026 at age 79. He truly appreciated the care he received from the nurses, staff, and doctors. Terry is survived by his children Nicole (Dave), Carla (Paul), Craig (Sarah); grandchildren Alex, Audrey, Olive, Angus, Brendan (Grayson); brothers Allan, Neil (Beth), Norman (Jean), Kelly (Beth); brother-in-law Mike; and many nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his parents Alexander and Olive, sister Sandra, sister-in-law Elaine, and niece Kirsten.
Terry was born in Matsqui (now Abbotsford) on what his mother declared was the hottest day of the year.
As a steam engineer, millwright, and welder, Terry made sure that everything ran with precision. Tools are organized, notes are made, problems are solved when necessary but prevented as a matter of course. His skills were valued by many employers over his life - Snowcrest, Moneys Mushrooms, Beaupre, and more. He was very successful in passing along some of these skills to his kids.
After spending most of his life in Abbotsford, retirement brought new adventures. Terry moved to Princeton where he fulfilled a lifetime dream of building his own house, then to Lake Cowichan, and finally to Duncan. Along the way he made new friends and contributed to the local communities. The people that he met and the events and projects at the fairgrounds in Princeton and at the Kaatza Museum in Lake Cowichan meant a lot to him, and he was always willing to help a friend. He was particularly proud of helping to get benches made and a totem pole in Lake Cowichan set in place, holding true to his love of being surrounded by sawdust.
If you knew Terry for a while, he probably told you the same story more than once. He got that from his mum. We will miss his stories. We will miss him. Love you. Take care.
We appreciate any memories of Terry that you can share with us.
