Bill Bannister passed away at the Sunridge Place Seniors home on Tuesday, March 22nd , 2016 at the age of 89 years.
He lived his full life raising his family in many places during his 40 year career in the oil and gas industry with Chevron. Bill lived in Venezuela, Libya, Houston, Calgary, Edmonton, and finally moved back to Calgary until retirement in 1988. During his distinguished career with Chevron Exploration, he was part of a number of significant oil and gas discoveries in Canada.
Upon retirement Bill and his wife Helen moved to Arbutus Ridge, Cobble Hill, BC where Bill and Helen remained active in the community with tennis and golf and adventuring around the world. Hiking and biking were passions along with running in his earlier years. His travels with Helen usually included biking or walking through Ireland, England, France, China, Vietnam, Turkey, Sicily, Australia, New Zealand, Austria, Switzerland, Mexico and the USA.
Bill was a dedicated husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed the occasional ice cream or chocolate cake with his grandchildren and great-grandchild. He was a true gentleman with a passion for the outdoors, a spirit of generosity and a witty sense of humour.
Bill will be missed greatly by his friends and family and leaves: Helen, his wife of 63 years, son Ted (Sue), daughter Laurie (Rob), son Peter (Heather) and son Ron (Kelly) along with grandchildren Nicole, Kristina (Darryl), Kendra, Jordan, Josh, Katia, Matthias and great grandchild Elsa.
There will be a private family celebration of Bill’s life in the summer.
