

On February 21, 2011, Peter Currie Hewitson Thomson passed away peacefully in his 95th year at McMaster University Hospital folowing a short illenss. Peter was born in Glasgow, Scotland August 3, 1916, son to John McSwan Thomson Sr. and Margaret Thomson (nee Kettrick). Husband to Helen Thomson (nee Brown) who passed away on January 10, 2011. Younger brother to Catherine Hewitson Thomson and older brother to John McSwan Thomson Jr., both deceased; attended and graduated St. Mungo's Academy Glasgow, Scotland. Following graduation Peter served with the Merchant Marine for over 5 years, serving on ships that took him through the Mediterranean, around Africa and repeatedly to Montreal and New York. Peter resigned from the Merhant Marine in November of 1938 to join the R.A.F. where he served in Britain and Canada as well as the European and North African Theatres for over seven years. Following his discharge in 1946 and after a short stay in London, England, Peter and his wife Helen immigrated to Hamilton, Ontario. Peter became a long term employee of the Canadian Westinghouse Company retiring in 1981 following 34 years of continuous service. Peter is survived by his nephew, Brian Murdock Thomson of Mitchell, Ontario and his niece Margaret Linda Gail Kuwabara of the Turks and Caicos Islands. Peter will be sadly missed by all who knew his gentle spirit and love of nature in all its forms, as well as his subtle sense of humour which could lighten any moment. Friends may call at The MARLATT FUNERAL HOME & CREMATION CENTRE, 615 Main Street East (east of Sanford) on Friday, February 25th from 1 p.m. until the time of service in the Marlatt Memorial Chapel at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or the Hamilton S.P.C.A. would be appreciated.
