On September 17, 1932, Ellen was born to the late Archie Raynor and Martha Ann Edwards Raynor in Wayne County, NC.
Ellen was a strong person of faith devoting her life to Christ and spreading His message of love and compassion to everyone she met. Her calling to share the Gospel was evident in those she met each day as well as through her many ministries, including her Christian Radio Broadcasts and her Christian Television Ministry, “Jesus is Coming Soon” on the local channel 56. A guiding scripture was:
Ephesians 6:13 Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
Ellen had a varied and interesting career ranging from long distance telephone operator at Southern Bell, dental assistant for Dr Jerry Jernigan, professional auctioneer, head of accounting at First Citizen’s bank, and proprietor of Ellen’s Treasure House of Antiques in multiple locations.
Her husband, Sam Altman, preceded Ellen in death in 2014. Ellen dearly loved her ten brothers, Hubert C. Raynor, Houston E. Raynor, James Archie Raynor, Luby Raynor, Albert Raynor, Harvey Raynor, Leslie Raynor, John Harold Raynor, Joseph B. Raynor, and Larry D. Raynor.
Ellen is survived by her two sons, Ron Altman, and wife Terrie, of Salem, SC and Samuel Raynor Altman, and wife Mila, of Wilmington, NC, and her daughter, LeAnne Altman Page, and husband Glenn, of Harrells, NC.
Surviving her are also, eight grandchildren, Casey Strickland, and wife Rachel, of Falcon, NC, Ellen Leilani Altman Wood, and husband Ben, of Charlotte, NC, Kat Altman, and husband Will Cooperider, of Atlanta, GA, Leeza Altman of Atlanta,
Kari Barnett, and husband Josh, of Clinton, NC, Christopher Boltz, of Navarre, FL, Marcus Page, and wife Erica, of Clinton, NC, and Charles Sherron of Raleigh, NC. She is also survived by nine great-grandchildren, Haddie Strickland, of Falcon, NC, Noa Wood, of Charlotte, NC, Kalepa Wood, of Charlotte, NC, Annalee Altman of Atlanta, Asleigh Kate Barnett, of Clinton, NC, Conner Boltz, of Navarre, FL, Kaia Boltz, of Wilmington, NC, and Ryleigh and Kinsley Page, of Clinton, NC.
Ellen leaves behind a host of nieces, nephews, friends, and so many that were touched by her Christian testimony.
On Thursday, March 28, 2024, family and friends will gather from 12:30 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. at Cromartie-Miller Funeral Home.
Funeral services will follow at 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of Cromartie-Miller Funeral Home, with the Rev. Bill Altman officiating.
