Mr. Felber (known to friends and family as Big Jer), was born in Buffalo. As a young man he worked with his family in the construction business. During the Korean War Era he was part of the Army Guard 106th Field Artillery.
In the late 1940’s and into the 1950’s Mr. Felber worked side-by-side with his father and brothers owning and running a concrete business. In late 1950, the entire family migrated to Riverside, California where they owned a gas station and were involved in other enterprises. In the early 1960s he and his brothers Ted, Don and Bob built homes in western NY. In 1963, the brothers started Builder’s Supply and Lumber now known as Felber’s Building Supply. With a mutual love of horse racing, the brothers for a time owned a horse farm that they later turned into Golden Pond Estates in Akron, a manufactured home community. Mr. Felber and his brothers retired in 1999. The building supply business they founded and co-owned celebrated 50 years in business in 2013 and continues to be run by second and third generation Felber’s and friends.
Mr. Felber was hard working, but always made time for family vacations; Fourth of July and Christmas parties were a must. Life was complete with his bride of 57 years always by his side.
After retiring Mr. Felber enjoyed his years traveling through every state in our nation that he loved so dearly. He loved being a Grandpa and spending time with his beloved grandchildren. He loved his church and happily volunteered his time and gifts. He had a fabulous voice and loved to sing, and if he could, would say do not cry for me but would rather be singing “Happy Trails to You, Until We Meet Again.”
Mr. Felber had a unique way of bringing happiness to others. He lived each day to the fullest and will be dearly missed by family and friends.
Mr. Felber is survived by his wife, Erika; his son Jerry (Tonia) Felber Jr., and daughters Cheryl (Gregory) George, Cindy (Jeffrey) Rogacki, and Erika (Scott) Schunk, and his seven grandchildren, Gregory George , Amanda (Chris) Russell, Ryan (finance Lauren Kent) Rogacki, Kyle Rogacki, Alysa Rogacki, Tyler Schunk and Nicholas Schunk.
Services will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, April 30, at Elma United Methodist Church, 2991 Bowen Road, Elma, NY. Flowers gratefully declined. If desired, contributions can be made in his memory to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation of Western New York or Hospice of Buffalo.
