Evan G. Thomas, a long-time resident of East Aurora, NY, died in Gibsonia, PA on Wednesday, August 18. He was 87.
Mr. Thomas was born in Holden, MA on July 1, 1934, the son of the late Gordon and Marjorie Thomas. He was the beloved husband of 64 years to Virginia (Ginger) Thomas.
Mr. Thomas graduated from Juniata College in 1956 and earned his MS and PhD in organic chemistry from the University of Maine at Orono. He enjoyed a long, successful career as a research chemist, employed by Allied Chemical Corp. in Buffalo, and by Fiber Materials Incorporated in Biddeford, ME. He was a member of the American Chemical Society and Sigma Xi.
He was a long-time member of the First Presbyterian Church of East Aurora, where he served as a deacon, trustee, elder, and Sunday school teacher, as well as a member of the Personnel Committee. A lifelong avid birdwatcher, he also enjoyed gardening, woodworking, chess, reading, and photography in his spare time.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Thomas is survived by his children Robert (Sue) Thomas of Oak Hill, VA, Anne (Douglas) Orr of Glenshaw, PA, and James (Catherine) Thomas of Upperco, MD. He is also survived by grandchildren Jeremy Thomas, Andrew, Kevin and Lisa Orr, and Joseph and Jillian Thomas.
A memorial service will be held at the First Presbyterian Church of East Aurora, 9 Paine St., East Aurora, NY 14052 at 11:00 AM on Thursday, September 9, 2021. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to the First Presbyterian Church.
