AVIS DE DÉCÈS

Suzanne (Watkin) Castle

9 février 19321 juin 2020

Suzanne W Castle passed away peacefully on June 1, 2020 after a brief illness. She was born Suzanne Watkin on February 9, 1932 in Buffalo, New York. Suzanne was raised in north Buffalo where she met William B Castle while attending Bennett High School and the University Presbyterian Church. They were married on October 9, 1954 and lived in the Town of Tonawanda and Williamsville. Sue is survived by two sons David (Lorrie) Castle of Houston, TX and Daniel (Katherine) Castle of East Aurora, NY. She held a special place in her heart for her 2 Granddaughters Elizabeth (Chris) Mangiafico (Rockville, MD) and Margaret (Tim) Keyser (Fairport, NY) and her Great Granddaughter, Millie. She was predeceased by her husband of 53 years William "Bill" Castle, her parents Wesley and Jeanette Watkin and her sister, Jeanne (Anton) Lester of Tyler, TX.

Sue was an active member of University Presbyterian Church in Buffalo since High School, served as an ordained Ruling Elder and on multiple committees throughout her life, including coordinating the church's 75th anniversary celebration in 1996. She also was involved with the Presbytery of Western New York where she was the Editor of the monthly Spirit newsletter for a number of years and served as the Presbytery's liaison to the Pastor Nomination Committees for several Presbyterian Churches in the Buffalo area. In her younger adult days she was involved with the Ken-Ton Jayncees, a sister organization to the Jaycees.

She was artistically inclined being an accomplished painter and artist with paintings in private art collections across the United States. She avidly enjoyed crafting, reading, crossword puzzles, jigsaw puzzles, cheering for the Bills and Sabres and treasured nature. Sue loved Buffalo and Western New York and was always excited to be one of the best tour guides around for visiting friends and family.

A Memorial Service/Celebration of her life will be scheduled at University Presbyterian Church at a later date when such gatherings can be conducted safely and joyously. She will be buried at Acacia Park Cemetery along with her husband and parents.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Sue's memory to the Beechwood/Blocher Foundation (beechwoodcare.org), the University Presbyterian Church of Buffalo Memorial Fund (upcbuffalo.org), or to a local charity of your choice that supports COVID-19 relief efforts.

Dave,

We were saddened to hear of the passing of your mother. We know you'll miss her deeply. I enjoyed scrolling through the pictures. Great picture of you with her, I assume from your wedding, and I can see she was a talented artist. It is nice that you shared those moments with us who didn't know her. Our sincere condolences to you and your family.

Hello to Suzanne's family-My mom, Helen Mosgrober, and Suzanne were both residents in the same hall at Beechwood. We were all heartbroken to learn that Suzanne had recently passed. Our deep and sincere sympathy is sent to all of Suzanne's children, relatives, and family. Mom & I (daughter Sue) had a special friendship with Suzanne. We all watched TV/movies together, visited in the parlor, sat outside on the patio and talked on warm days, enjoyed watching/feeding the baby ducks together, and being supportive of one another. Your mom even showed us some of her art. Most of all, your dear mom, and my dear mom, and two or three other dear residents loved to play cards together in the evening. We used to tease them that they were in Vegas, and we nick-named them the "Card-Sharkettes"! They even enjoyed beverages/snacks while playing cards. I have wonderful photos of their time and fun together (if you ever want a copy after quarantine). That is why we also share in your loss. We miss Suzanne too. We are sure that Suzanne is now enjoying God's magnificent art in Heaven. She is also playing cards with the Angels and giving them a run for it, since she was a good card player! Suzanne and all of you are in our daily prayers. May God give you comfort, strength, and peace at this difficult time! Sincerely & in Friendship,
Helen Mosgrober & daughter Marysue (Sue) Visser

I have very fond memories of Bill and Sue. The became friends of my mom and dad through Koinonia. They were wonderful people and powerful Christians witnesses who lived their faith in service.
Wishing you all comfort in wonderful memories.

Hey Dan (and Dave), I always remember coming over to your house to play as a kid, your mom and dad would always stop to talk to me, make a point of it always, just to check in with me and my life and what was going on. A very nice touch and many wonderful memories of your mom and dad. Sorry for your loss. In God they are powerfully with you even now. Go through all your pictures, let them come back to you in your memories. How much they loved you!!
