OMAN, Barbara (Hobbs) of East Hartford, passed away peacefully in her sleep on her birthday, September 3, 2021. Beloved daughter of the late Kenneth and Isabell Hobbs, also of East Hartford. Loving sister of Glenda Hobbs and her husband Michael Sragow of Los Angeles, and the late Karen Hobbs Munafo and husband Richard Munafo, of South Boston. Devoted mother of three sons, the late Kenneth E. Oman, David Oman and his wife Michelle, of Andover, CT, and Gregory Oman, of Milwaukie, Oregon. Joyous and engaged grandmother to David and Michelle’s daughters, Mikayla and Halie Oman. She was married to the late Elton Oman and the late Steve Dumeer. She was a gifted and dedicated elementary school teacher for four decades, mostly in East Hartford Public Schools. She graduated from East Hartford High School in 1962 and received her Bachelor of Science in Education from the University of Hartford and her Master of Science in Education from Central Connecticut State University. Selfless, creative, and boundlessly enthusiastic, she was loved and admired by students and colleagues alike. Her many friends will miss her fun-loving spirit, her hearty laugh, and her generous soul. Visiting Hours are Thursday, Sept. 23, 4-7 p.m., at the Newkirk and Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Avenue, East Hartford, CT. 06108. A Memorial service will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 24, also at Newkirk and Whitney followed by a burial at Hillside Cemetery in East Hartford.
