Camila was diagnosed with Hypoplastic Left Heart Syndrome (the left side of the heart cannot pump oxygen-rich blood to the body properly) when Mom was 22 weeks pregnant. Although your chance to survive a major operation was unknown, your dad & I decided to give you the gift of life and let God make his decision. On May 8 you were born, just like a healthy baby but with a sick heart. At birth you were diagnosed with 3 heart defect (HLHS, TAPVR & DORV). It was devastating but we decided to keep fighting for you. You were transferred to Boston Children’s Hospital to give you the best care. At 1 week old, you had your open heart surgery, that day I knew you were strong & a warrior! You had a stroke, cardiac arrest, your chest was open for 21 days & so many complications that you kept fighting! You had a rough recovery that it lead to an infection in your intestines. Nec caused her to have a laparotomy & she was losing a lot of blood that they decided to leave necrotic bowels inside of her to save her life. When she had that surgery, it was a relief for her but at the same time it was not fixed. She kept having fevers, they drained an infection inside of her belly and she needed another laparotomy to take out the necrotic bowel…. She came out really puffy and really sick… She needed to be in the oscillatory vent because her lungs were sick plus all the fluid! Her kidneys started to shut down & they were doing everything… There was no hope, the doctors made it clear that her kidneys are not working & that she won’t make it through an hour, a day or a week… I made the hardest decision to let her go without any pain and suffering! Camila is a strong baby and my heart warrior. Your family loves you so much! RIP my love👼🕊️❤️
