Delia M Gherlone

Delia Mary Gherlone, 94, of South Glastonbury, passed away on January 8, 2012. She was born to the late Samuel and Lena Laneri, June 17, 1917 in Glastonbury, CT. Delia graduated from Glastonbury High School. She then started to work in J.B. Williams Factories in Glastonbury. She married the late Dino Gherlone in 1938 where together they started a baker in Middletown, CT. They settled back in Glastonbury shortly after the war. Delia loved gardening and cooking. She collected and tried hundreds of recipes but her passion was fishing with her husband in Rhode Island. In their Scout they would ride the dunes together chasing bait fish. She also devoted many years helping care for several members of her cherished family. She had a great memory and would tell many stories of what it was like when she was a girl. She is survived by her beloved sister in-law and cousins, Olga Laneri, Lena Hagenow and Anne Manfredi. She also leaves several loved nieces and nephews; 8 grandnieces and nephews; and five great-grandnieces and nephews. Delia was predeceased by her brothers and sister.

Friends and family are invited to attend Delia's Mass of Christian burial on Wednesday, (January 11th) at 10:30 AM, at St. Augustine Church, 55 Hopewell Rd, South Glastonbury, CT. Burial will follow in St. Augustine Cemetery. There are no calling hours. In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to POA (Protectors of Animals) in Glastonbury.
