

Edmund W. Carroll, 98, husband of the late Marguerite Connelly Carroll, passed away peacefully at his home in Seabury Meadow, Bloomfield. Ed was born on February 25, 1918, in Fitchburg, MA, a son of the late Patrick and Delia (Malone) Carroll.
He graduated from St. Bernard’s Grammer & High School in 1935 where he played hockey & football, and from Holy Cross College in 1939. Ed proudly served in the United States Marine Corps as a 1st lieutenant, during World War II, finishing his career in Okinawa.
Ed worked in the Insurance industry until his retirement in 1983, and was a fellow of the CPCU Charter Property Casualty Underwriters. He will be remembered as a baseball coach, tree transplanter, never refusing a stylish plaid outfit, hole-in-one golfer and who called on physics to improve his game by longer and longer clubs. He was a card caring member of the greatest generation.
He will be dearly missed by his 5 sons; Edmund W. (Susan) of Simsbury, Robert F. (Kathleen) of Windsor, Richard T. (Sharon) of Parker, CO, Mark J. (Jeanne) of Potomac, MD, David A. (Shawna) of Medford, OR., grandchildren; Brian (Cindy), Brett (Elizabeth), Patricia, Robert Jr. (Meghan), Dennis (Shannon), Elizabeth, Samantha, Stephanie (Arthur), Kacie, Keegan, Kaitlin, Alison, Jacqueline, Conor, great grandchildren; Meghan, Jackson, Patrick and John.
Ed is also survived by his sister Ellen Auth Bye of Jupiter, FL, and sister-in-law Eileen Carroll of Fitchburg, MA.
In addition to his wife, Ed is predeceased by his siblings; Mary Burke, Thomas Carroll, John Carroll, Mother Mary Carmelita of the Sisters of the Presentation of the Blessed Mary.

Visitation will be held on Saturday, April 2, 2016 from 8:15am-9:15am at the Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Ave., East Hartford, CT 06108, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am at St. Gabriel Church, 379 Broad St. Windsor.
