

George Owen McTygue, 84, of East Hartford, beloved husband of Helen (McLean) McTygue, died Friday, July 9, 2010 at Riverside Health and Rehabilitation Center. Born March 3, 1926 in Tarrytown, NY and raised in Saratoga Springs, NY, George was the son of James and Elizabeth (Rowland) McTygue. A carpenter, George loved working with his hands, and proudly served his country in the U.S. Navy during WWII, aboard the LST 574 in the Pacific Theater. George worked many years for the East Hartford Board of Education. In addition to his wife Helen, George is survived by 2 daughters Judith Lee Arocho and Wendy Sue McTygue; 3 sons Paul McTygue, Graham McTygue and Thomas McTygue; 6 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; other relatives and friends.
A Memorial Service celebrating George’s life will be held on Wednesday, August 4, 2010 at 11:00 at the South Congregational Church of East Hartford, 1301 Forbes Street, East Hartford, CT 06118. Memorial Contributions may be made in George’s name to the South Congregational Church of East Hartford or a charity of the donor’s choice. Newkirk and Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Avenue, East Hartford, has care of arrangements.
