
Helen (Helena) Trecarten Mead, 96, formerly of East Hartford, wife of the late Henry L. Mead, died Sunday, January 16, 2011. Daughter of Walter and Henrietta Nolene Trecarten, sister to Walter and Katherine, mother to infant daughters Kay and Kim, all deceased; she is survived by daughters Mary Dansinghani of E. Hartford and Marcia Lebre(husband, Gerald) of Paris, France; four grandchildren, Raj Dansinghani (wife, Eugenia), Kamala Dansinghani (daughters, Arya and Soraya), Nathalie Lebre Norodom (husband, Hut; children, Celian and Alexian), and Eric Lebre; as well as nephew Neal Trecarten (wife, Bonnie) and niece Peggy Fish, and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends in Connecticut and New Hampshire.
Born September 18, 1914 in Bartlett, New Hampshire, Helen went to school in Lewiston, ME, later graduated from the University of Maine, Farmington (Class of 1934), going on to become a teacher in a one-room schoolhouse in Colebrook, NH. After marriage, she traveled widely in the States, Hawaii and Japan, living on various military bases with her Air Force husband, before settling in E. Hartford, where she continued teaching, taking trips regularly back to Bartlett, being active in South Congregational Church, and maintaining her lifelong membership in her home Union Congregational Church.
The family wishes to thank the staff at Saint Mary Home, West Hartford, for their considerate attentions to Helen. A memorial service will be held in the spring at the convenience of the family in Bartlett, where Helen will be buried beside her husband.
Memorial donations, for those who choose, may be made in Helen’s honor to the University of Maine (Alumni Center, 242 Main Street, Farmington, ME 04938) or to either South Congregational Church, 1301 Forbes Street, E. Hartford, CT 06118, or Union Congregational Church, Bartlett, NH 03812, or any organization of the donor’s choice. Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home (E. Hartford) and Furber & White Funeral Home (North Conway, NH) are in charge of arrangements.
