

Howard (Bud) G Harvey, 90, beloved husband of Dolores R Harvey of East Hartford died peacefully with his family by his side after a brief illness. He was born on May 20, 1934 in Montpelier VT and was the son of the late Howard and Madeline Harvey. He was a lifelong resident of East Hartford and a member of St Rose of North American Martyrs Parish where he served as a lector for many years. After graduating from East Hartford High School in 1952 he attended St Anselm College in Manchester NH graduating in 1956. While in college Bud was president of the Future Teachers of America organization, participated in Glee Club, Abbey Players, Intramurals, CCD, and Teacher Chairman. An excellent student, he was named to the Dean's List and was one of nine seniors elected to "Who's Who among students in American Colleges and Universities." This publication comprises the outstanding student leaders from every major college and university in America. Students are selected on the basis of their outstanding all around achievements. After Bud graduated, he and Dolores were married at St Rose Church where they were longtime active parishioners. Bud was a member of the Knights of Columbus as his father and brother were as well. In 1961 they built their home on Holland Lane where they lived the rest of their lives. Continuing his education he earned his Masters Degree from The University of Hartford and his Sixth Year Administrative Degree from Trinity College in Hartford. Bud began his distinguished teaching career at East Hartford High School before becoming a principal at Tolland High School. Later he returned to East Hartford High School where he was appointed department chair. Bud was highly respected and admired by his many colleagues and students. In 1963 the family joined Glenbrooke Swim and Tennis Club which began their 40 year love affair with tennis. They made many friends there with whom Dolores and Bud shared cross country skiing and many social activities. Throughout the years they also attended performances at UConn and traveled extensively, visiting England, Greece, Italy, Hawaii, the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone and other places. He also loved the New York Yankees and was an avid fan for many years. Also, in support of Dolores's lifelong concern for children, animals, and the environment, they contributed to these causes and to the St Rose Food Pantry. Bud was predeceased by the love of his life Dolores, by his daughter Kelly Harvey, mother and father Howard and Madeline Harvey, sister Jeanne (Richard) Krauskas, brother Richard Harvey and grandson Ryan Dunne. He is survived by his treasured daughters Kimberly Kinney, Cynthia (Stephen) Derry, daughter in law Marybeth Ruttan, and Christine (Jeffrey) McAllister. Left to cherish his memory are grandchildren, Brittany (Dustin) McPhillips, Sean (Alexandra) McAllister, Matthew McAllister and great-grandchildren Beau McPhillips, Julian McPhillips, and Sebastian McAllister. The family would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the Hospice Care nurses for their excellent care and concern for Bud. But especially to Kelley Roy RN, for her extraordinary compassion, warmth and respect for Bud. As Bud and his family wished, there will be a private funeral and burial. In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made to North American Martyrs Parish East Hartford, attention food pantry. A memorial Mass celebrating Bud's life will follow at a later date.
