Hugh R. Finkle, Sr., age 95, passed away peacefully at his home in East Hartford on January 12, 2015. A devoted husband and father, he was predeceased by his loving wife, Irene “Renee”, his brother Willard, and his sister Marilyn. He leaves behind his only son, Hugh R. Finkle Jr. “Ricky” and his daughter in-law, Lisa Hartono-Finkle of Los Angeles, as well as numerous nephews and nieces.
He was born April 22, 1920 and lived nearly all of his childhood and adult life in East Hartford. He is remembered for his patriotic service to our Country during World War II where he fought in the Pacific Theater for nearly 4 years in armed combat with the 169th Infantry Division. Upon returning from the War, he married his wife of 66 years, Irene “Renee” Anderson, until her passing in 2012.
Hugh was employed in various positions in the wholesale bakery industry and after retirement continued working as an active courier for the Law Firm of Zito and Clark. He enjoyed traveling all around “his beautiful state of Connecticut” as he used say. He was very active in the South Congregational Church of East Hartford as both a Deacon and Tenor Soloist in the Choir. Hugh is remembered by those who knew him as an extremely caring and unselfish person who was always concerned about the well being of the people that he knew and loved. In his final years, he was cared for by Ms. Ella Walker who devoted over 5 years of her life attending to his care and well being, of which he was very grateful for.
Funeral Services will be held at a later date.
