

James Francis Foran 93, of East Hartford, CT and Charlestown, RI, Beloved husband of the late Elizabeth C. Foran, passed away on Wednesday, June 6th at Glastonbury Healthcare Center. He was born on October 5th, 1918 in East Hartford, CT to the late Nicholas and Catherine (Galvin) Foran.
He graduated from East Hartford High School. Mr. Foran was employed by The East Hartford Fire Department retiring in 1983 as a Deputy Chief. He was a proud veteran of World War II, having served in the U.S. Navy aboard the U.S.S. Denver. He was a communicant of St. Mary’s Church in East Hartford and was a member of Volunteer Hose Company #2. He was a loving father whose family meant everything to him. He loved sitting on the deck at his retirement home in Rhode Island, entertaining friends and family. He was a devoted fan of the UCONN women’s and men’s basketball teams.
He is survived and will be dearly missed by his sons, Terrence Foran and his wife Margaret “Peggy” Foran of Glastonbury, Francis “Ned” Foran and his wife Susan Foran of Coventry, CT; his brother William P. Foran of East Hartford, his brother in-law Jack Little of East Hartford, his sister in-law Mary Foran of South Windsor and his grandson, Kieran Foran of Glastonbury who was the apple of his eye. He was predeceased by his brothers Nicholas “Bud” Foran and John “Yoc” Foran and his sisters Josephine Bernetich, Catherine “Kitty” Melody and Theresa Little.
Funeral Services will begin at 8:30 AM, on Monday, June 11, 2012, at Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Ave., East Hartford, CT 06108, followed by the funeral liturgy at 10 AM, at St. Mary’s Church, 15 Maplewood Ave. East Hartford, CT 06108. Burial, with full military honors will follow in St. Mary Cemetery, East Hartford, CT. Calling hours will be held Sunday, June 10th, from 3 to 7pm at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Jim’s memory may be made to: Masonicare Partners Home Health and Hospice, 111 Founders Plaza, Suite 200, East Hartford, CT 06108.
The family would like to thank the staff at Glastonbury Healthcare Center, especially Brendan, Maggie, Marge and Katie for the care they provided to our dad. They always treated him with compassion, dignity and respect
