

James Russell Shuckerow, 85, beloved husband of Virginia (Nasset) Shuckerow, returned to our lord, May 21, 2015, passing away at St. Francis Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was born on January 30, 1930 to the late William and Isabelle (Russell) Shuckerow.
James was a longtime resident of East Hartford. He attended East Hartford and Hartford Regional Technical Schools. James was employed by Kaman Aircraft retiring after almost 40 years of service. He was proud to serve in the US Navy. He was an honest and caring man who instilled his hardworking, community serving values to his family. He was a member of St. Mary Church and active in many of their charitable efforts. He was a chairman for the Northside Resident Merchants Association “NORMA” for many years, a member of the Army/Navy club in Manchester and coached East Hartford youth baseball. James was committed to his love of golf and active in the Airway Golf League in Suffield for over 27years holding leadership positions. He was a superior bowler. For many years he was a member of the Insurance City Bowling League winning league championships and trophies while holding leadership positions in the league. James enjoyed boating and would spend time on any form of water. He was an innovative and creative tinker who could fix just about anything. Most of all, James cherished time spent with family especially his grandchildren. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
In addition to his wife Virginia of 63 years, he is survived by his sons, James Jr. Shuckerow and his wife Laurie and David Shuckerow and his wife Maria; his grandchildren, Lyndsey, Kyle, David Jay and Krista; his brothers, Richard, Ronald, Kenneth, John, Dennis, William and Kevin Shuckerow; his sisters, Margaret Duchesneau, Nancy Higgins, Mary Lou Bugda and Wilma Carr. He was predeceased by his brothers, Francis and Robert.
Calling hours will be held on Wednesday (5/27) from 4 to 7PM at Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Ave., East Hartford. Funeral Services will begin at 9AM on Thursday (5/28) at the funeral home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10AM, at St. Mary Church, 15 Maplewood Ave., East Hartford. Burial with military honors will be held on Friday (5/29) at 10AM, in Silver Lane Cemetery.
