

John J. Beas, Sr., 75 of East Hartford, CT, passed away suddenly on July 9, 2022, peacefully with his wife Shirley (Davis) and other family members by his side. John was born in Johnstown, PA in 1946, of the late Herbert A. Beas and Betty Ann Dollack. He graduated from Franklin High School in Johnstown and enlisted in the Army. He served in the 11th Armored Calvary Regiment where he volunteered for the Vietnam War and served in HHT 3/11 from 1966-1967. He married the love of his life in 1971 and relocated to East Hartford, CT. He worked at Pratt & Whitney as a machinist and was a member of Local 1746 IAMAW where he was a shop steward. He earned a degree in Manufacturing Engineering. During this time, he raised four boys, enjoyed motorcycles, models, and the music of Elvis Presley. He retired after 34 years and was active in many veterans’ organizations including: the VVA Post 120, VFW Post 155, the American Legion Post 879, DAV Chapter CT-12, the Blackhorse Association and 11th ACR VVA, to name a few. He enjoyed feeding birds and solving puzzles during his retirement. He is survived by his wife Shirley Davis, his sons Edward Nugent Jr. and his wife Terry Nugent, Charles Nugent and his wife Nelly Nugent, Herbert A. Beas II and John J. Beas Jr. He is also survived by his three grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents and his siblings, Mary Louise Johncola and her husband Joseph Johncola, Herbert F. Beas and his wife Betty Beas, and Cletus Beas. John’s family would like to thank many family friends and neighbors for their support over the years. Calling hours for John will be held Friday, July 22, 2022 from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Ave, East Hartford, Connecticut 06108. A brief gathering prior to the Cemetery will occur Saturday, July 23, 2022 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM, 318 Burnside Ave, East Hartford, Connecticut 06108. A Graveside service will occur Saturday, July 23, 2022 at 11:15 AM at Silver Lane Cemetery, 1280 Silver Lane, East Hartford, CT.
