John was born in Hartford, the son of the late John (“Jack”) and Eleanor (Bacon) Holmes. He was predeceased by his sister, and only sibling, Margery Holmes Longley.
Music was near and dear to John and over the years, when he wasn’t listening to his favorite radio programs, he managed to collect literally thousands of albums and records. He graduated from East Hartford High School and was a lifelong resident of the community.
John is survived by his two nieces, Erin Szegda and her son Michael of Hebron, Ct. and Meredith Longley of Manchester, Ct. He is also survived by his brother-in-law Donald Longley of Manchester and several cousins.
Funeral services are Saturday February 6, 2016 at the Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Ave., East Hartford at 12 noon. Family and friends are invited to gather prior to the service from 11AM-12 noon, to honor John’s life and say a prayer. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery.
