

Joseph R. McWalter, age 93, passed away Wednesday, May 30 at his home, Emeritus Assisted Living in South Windsor. Joe was born in Hartford to the late Michael and Katherine (Donohue) McWalter. He attended local Hartford Schools and worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps. He retired from the State of Connecticut after working in the Maintenance Department at the State Capitol for more than 38 years. Joe was predeceased by his siblings James McWalter and Catherine Krowka.
Joe enjoyed traveling, reading, exercising, and going to Ocean Beach. He would ride his bike from his home in East Hartford to the exercise club he attended in Manchester. Joe was an avid Red Sox and Patriots fan.
Joe is survived by his sister-in-law Anne McWalter of East Hartford, his nephew and nieces, James (Karen) McWalter of Vernon, Carole (Anthony) Mazzarella of Westport, Gail (Roger) Horan of Vernon, and Janice (Michael) Richards of Manchester. He is also survived by his grand nieces and nephews, Melissa, Carrie, Jonathan and Gregg. Also his great grand nieces and nephews, Simone, Ruby, Silas, Jackson and Mattingly.
The family would like to express their thanks to the staff at Emeritus for the care Joe received. We would also like to express our thanks to the aides who took care of Joe; Edmund, Ester, Adowa, Faustina. Also thanks to the professional staff of Interim Healthcare, especially Wendy J. Fitt (PT) for Joe’s special care.
Funeral services will begin at 8:30am, on Saturday, June 2nd, at Benjamin J. Callahan Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Ave., East Hartford, CT 06108, followed by the funeral liturgy at 10:00am, at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 673 Ellington Rd, South Windsor, CT 06074. Burial will follow in Mt. St. Benedict Cemetery, 1 Cottage Grove Rd, Bloomfield CT 06002.
