

Josephine Mary Lavigne, 96, beloved wife of the late Napoleon Lavigne, passed away peacefully on Sunday, March 23, 2014 at Woodlake at Tolland Healthcare. She was born January 8, 1918 in Northfield, MA to the late Andrew and Mary Sliwa. Josephine was a humble and unassuming person who never wanted attention. She spent over 50 years in East Hartford raising, worrying and loving her family. Her special french toast, chicken noodle soup and chicken & biscuits will be dearly missed. She maintained both flower and vegetable gardens well into her eighties.
She will be missed by her son, Albert and his wife Janice of Claremore, OK; her daughter, Lin Bieback and her husband John of Ellington; her sister Anne Wyzga of Chicopee, MA; her grandchildren, Bryan and Jodie Lavigne, Steven Lavigne, Allison Bieback and Tom Bieback; her great-grandchildren, Derek and Jessica and many caring nieces and nephews who visited and helped her throughout the years. Josephine was predeceased by her sisters, Stella, Edna and Cora.
Calling hours will be held Thursday, March, 27, from 5 to 8PM, at Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Ave., East Hartford. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, March 28th, at 10AM, at St. Mary Church, 15 Maplewood Ave., East Hartford. Please meet directly at church. Burial will follow in St. Mary Cemetery.
