Katherine A. Hux (McNeil) passed away on Tuesday, February 21, 2012 in Hartford Hospital surrounded by her extended family. Born September 27, 1935 (everyone finally knows now Mom) in Hartford, daughter of the late John and Hattie McNeil. She was a product of Burr High School and resided in East Hartford for over thirty years with her devoted husband, Joe E. Hux. Together they raised eight children and their home was always open to their children’s many friends. Kathy, or Katherine as Joe always called her, was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and, recently, great grandmother. Although never a fan of the seasonal changes from warm to cold, she embraced generational changes happily, and loved to brag about her kids’ kids. She and Joe migrated to warm Wildwood, Florida for several years after Joe retired from the Town of East Hartford but the tug of their children and grandchildren brought them back to Connecticut a few years ago.
Kathy is survived by Joe and her eight children, her daughter Roxanne Toce, her sons, Maurice Bouchard and wife Sharon, Albert Jardin and his companion, Jackie, Joseph Jardin and his companion, Jane, Salvadore Jardin and his fiancé Jacqueline, her daughters, Joanne Connolly and her companion, Joe Conti, Kathryn Doran and her husband Michael and Joyce Benneche and her husband, Tom; her grandchildren, Sarah, Thomas, Luke, Erin, Gary, Mary, Devon, Casey, Ryan, Jacob, Scott, Joseph, Brandon, Alicia, Dillon and her great grandson Alex. She was predeceased by her six siblings. Kathy will be remembered for her keen Bingo skills, her love of country music and line dancing, playing the guitar with Joe and playing a mean hand of cards, always for money of course. She had a great sense of humor, even if on the risqué side at times and was the proprietor of the cleanest, neatest home you would ever walk into, a source of pride with her to her last days. She didn’t mind a whiskey sour now and then, loved her Dunkin Donuts, would road trip with anyone and was fond of tight jeans and nice boots. Her family thanks the thoughtful caregivers on the 7th Floor, Bliss Wing, Hartford Hospital Intensive Care Unit for their kindness.
Funeral services will begin at 8 AM, on Saturday, February 25th, at Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Ave., East Hartford, CT 06108, followed by the funeral Liturgy at 10 AM, at St. Rose Church, 33 Church St., East Hartford, CT 06108. Burial is private and at the convenience of the family.
