

Kenneth Simmons, 77 of East Hartford and more recently of Coventry passed away suddenly on Monday December 27, 2010 at his residence. He was born February 16, 1933 in Waldoboro, Maine, son of the late Alton W. Simmons Sr. and Alice Simmons Gross. Ken was the widower of Terez (Ripp) Simmons who predeceased him in February of 2001. He served his country proudly in the United States Army during the Korean War, receiving two bronze service stars. Ken worked for the Manchester Board of Education as a Master Plumber for over thirty years. In his earlier years he enjoyed hunting and more recently his passion was fishing. He adored his family and also his feline friend.
He is survived by his three children, Kenneth Simmons and his wife Patricia of Vernon, Stefan Simmons and his wife Mindy of Oklahoma City, OK and daughter Elizabeth Gilbert and her husband Thomas of Brunswick, ME, his six grandchildren that were the light of his life, Thomas and Eric Gilbert, James, Melissa, Emily and Meghan Simmons and three great-grandchildren, three brothers, Alton W. Simmons Jr. and his wife Linda, Harold E. Dawson and his wife Rebecca all of Bremen, ME and Lawrence M. Gross of Waldoboro, ME: and three sisters Rosemary Ashner of Waldoboro, Shirley A. Kelly of Rockland and Juanita M. Gross of Waldoboro: along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Relatives and friends are invited on Thursday December 30th at 11 am to the Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Ave., East Hartford, followed by the 1 pm Celebration of Kenneth’s Life with Rev.
