

Lucie Carstens Daly, 56, of South Glastonbury passed away unexpectedly on November 30, 2016. She was born in Hartford, Connecticut to Jeffrey Peter and Lucy Truesdale “Dale” Carstens. Lucie was educated in the Glastonbury Public Schools and later graduated from Kingswood Oxford. She earned her bachelor’s degree and made lifelong friends at William Smith College in Geneva, New York. Lucie lived the majority of her adult life in South Glastonbury with her three wonderful children, Virginia “Genna,” Lila and Thomas “Tommy” Daly.
Lucie spent her childhood riding horses and was an active member of the Glastonbury Pony Club. During college she spent many happy summers on the Cape with her sister, Julie, and other friends working odd jobs and soaking in the Cape Cod sun. Lucie returned home to South Glastonbury and raised a loving family in a joyful household on High Street. She loved walking with her neighbors, tending to her lush garden and breaking even on a night at the casino. An avid reader, she spent many hours volunteering for the South Glastonbury Public Library and always had thoughtful book recommendations. Lucie loved welcoming neighbors and friends to her home for delicious meals or a glass of wine on her deck. She was a valued member of the business community, selling payroll services to small businesses with Complete Payroll Solutions. Lucie was an active member of the Business Network International (RiverEast) and treasured the relationships she developed in the community.
In addition to her three children and parents, Lucie is survived by her sister, Julie Carstens Kamis and her husband, Skip; her brother, Virgil Carstens and his wife, Deborah Katz. She is also survived by her former husband, Thomas Daly and her nieces, Meredith Kamis and Julia Kamis Gardner and her husband, Chris. Lucie leaves behind many best friends and her sweet dog, Pippy. She is preceded in death by her brother, Willett Noble Carstens and her grandparents.
Lucie will be remembered as a fun-loving and devoted mother, daughter, sister and friend to many. Calling hours will be held from 4:00 p.m to 7:00 p.m. on Friday, December 9th at the social hall at the South Congregational Church in South Glastonbury. A memorial service will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, December 10th at the South Congregational Church. The burial will be private and at the convenience of the family.
