

Marie Cahill Maturo, 100, beloved widow of Albert V. Maturo since 1977, of South Glastonbury passed away on Saturday, December 28, 2013. She was born March 17, 1913 in New Haven, CT to the late William Cahill and Mary McGurdy. She graduated from Sacred Heart Elementary School in 1927, Hill House High School in 1931, and Larson College (now part of Quinnipiac University) in 1932. She earned her ABS degree from Manchester Community College in 1982 and her BS degree from University of Connecticut in 1987 at age 74.
Mrs. Maturo was employed by Connecticut National Bank (now Bank of America) from 1964 to 1986. She began as a secretary in the Municipal Bond Department and then moved to the Legal Department. Previously, she worked as a legal secretary for Day, Berry and Howard in Hartford and the late Harvey Katz, attorney in Glastonbury. Prior to her marriage she worked for Day, Stoddard and Williams in New Haven, CT.
Mrs. Maturo was active in community affairs and served as a Director and then Director Emeritus of the Manchester Community College Alumni Association, from which she received the Distinguished Service Award in 1992. She went to Washington, D. C. as a Connecticut Senior Intern and she did tax counseling for the elderly as a Volunteer Income Tax Assistor. Mrs. Maturo placed a high value on education, completing her ABS and BS degrees between the ages of 63 and 74 as she worked full time at CNB. She had a lifelong love of reading, with a special interest in newspaper stories about financial and public policy issues. Mrs. Maturo was never stagnant, always interested in learning new things and meeting new people.
Marie Maturo is survived by her son Albert and his wife Maureen of East Hampton, CT; her daughter Carol Ward and her husband Allen of Manchester, CT; her beloved granddaughter Molly Jean Maturo; and several Cahill and McDermott cousins. Dedicated and kind, Marie Maturo will be sorely missed and her legacy will not be forgotten.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, January 18, 2014 at 12:00 PM at Glastonbury Funeral Home, 450 New London Turnpike, Glastonbury, CT 06033. Burial will follow in Saint Augustine’s Cemetery in South Glastonbury. Calling hours will be at the funeral home at 11:00 AM, one hour before services begin.
