

Mary Ann (Papineau) Tully, 85, of South Windsor, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on May 29, 2015 at St. Mary Home. She was born on May 24, 1930 in Hartford, CT a daughter of the late Leon S. and Mary C. (Loughlin) Papineau.
Mary was president of East Hartford Office Supply Co, was a president of the Democratic Women’s Club of East Hartford. As a longtime resident of East Hartford, Mrs. Tully has long been active in politics from the second district. She was a graduate of East Hartford High School and the Cambridge Secretarial School. Prior to taking over the family business she was employed by CT Bank and Trust. She was a longtime member of Our Lady of Consolation Mother's Circle.
She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She loved to watch UConn women’s basketball and the Red Sox, cooking and entertaining for friends and family. She was happiest when spending time with her cherished family.
Mary will be dearly missed by her 4 children; daughter Mary Beth Madden and her husband Ford of Broadbrook, Timothy Tully and his wife Kimberly of Portland, Attorney Daniel Tully of Bristol and Patrick Tully of South Windsor, 9 grandchildren; Jennifer Spada Violette (Kevin), Dean L. Spada (Bethany), Christopher A. Spada (Krista), Kevin Spada, Megan E. Tully, Michael T. Tully, Ryan C. Tully, Katherine L. Tully, Alexandra L. Tully, 4 great grandchildren; Aiden and Keegan Violette, Sophie and Troy Spada, sister Ann Britt (Stephen).
In addition to her parents, Mary is predeceased by her life partner John McCooe and former husband Lawrence J. Tully.

Calling hours will be held on Monday June 1, 2015, from 5-8PM at Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Ave., East Hartford CT 06108. Services will begin at the funeral home on Tuesday June 2, at 9am, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 673 Ellington Rd., South Windsor.
