Patricia Cooney

Patricia Ann Cooney, 84, of East Hartford, beloved wife of the late Michael Cooney, passed away on Sunday, March 10, 2013 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was raised in Brooklyn, NY by the late Edward and Helen (Kane) Klinedinst.

She moved to CT to attend St. Joseph’s College. Soon after, she met her future husband and together they moved to East Hartford where they raised their three daughters. She was employed for 20 years as an office administrator for Liberty Mutual Ins. Co., Glastonbury. She felt fortunate, when shortly after her retirement, she was offered a position as a librarian for the Town of East Hartford. She enthusiastically accepted as a way to indulge her passion for knowledge and her life-long obsession with reading. She will best be remembered for her compassion, intelligent sense of humor and unassuming generosity.

She will be dearly missed by her daughters, Elizabeth Thomas and her husband Peter, Noreen Cooney and her husband Michael Smith, and Kathleen Cooney, as well as her cherished grandchildren Shannon and DeRoy Thomas.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday, March 16, 2013 at 11AM, at Saint Francis of Assisi, 673 Ellington Rd, South Windsor, Connecticut 06074, burial will be private and at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be held on Friday, March 15, 2013 from 5 to 8PM, at Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Ave., East Hartford CT 06108.

In lieu of flowers, donations in Patricia’s name may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
