

He was born in Swanton, VT, July 31, 1924, son of the late Maurice Y. Nokes and Sadie (Shelmerdine) Nokes. He was a graduate of Hall High School, West Hartford in 1942 and a graduate of the University of Connecticut in 1950 with a degree in Electrical Engineering. He was a veteran of WWII, having served in the US Navy as an aviation radio technician from 1943 to 1946. He was a 56 year member of Village Lodge No. 29, AF & AM in Collinsville CT, a member of the American Legion Post 38, Ft. Meyers FL and a longtime member of the South Congregational Church in Hartford CT. Dick worked as an electrical engineer for utility companies in CT & NY until 1959 then he joined his father in a manufacturing business. He was president of Alcap Manufacturing Co. and later president of Contours Inc. He was a past president of the Middlesex County Manufacturers association. He and Jean lived in West Hartford for many years while raising three fine sons. After retiring, they moved to North Fort Meyers, FL in 1991 then returned to Hartford in 2004. Their marriage was as close to being perfect as is possible and they were truly devoted to each other. He was an avid reader who obtained a wealth of knowledge, especially in history. He was a boating enthusiast and fisherman and owned several boats. He will be remembered for his gentle and easy going manner and his sense of humor. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Besides his devoted wife, he leaves three sons, Jeffrey Nokes and his wife Janet of Edison NJ, Gregory Nokes and his wife Judy of Glastonbury, CT and David Nokes and his wife Susan of Cromwell, CT; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, March 3, 2012 at 1 PM at the South Congregational Church, 277 Main St. Hartford, CT 06106. Burial will be private.
