Roger C. Emanuelson

Roger C. Emanuelson, 85, of Glastonbury, CT, passed away Sunday, (January 22, 2012) at 12:55 a.m. surrounded by his wife and children. He was the beloved husband for 56 years to Gloria (Lindberg) Emanuelson. Roger was born November 15, 1926 in Jamestown, New York to the late David and Esther (Sheen) Emanuelson. His family moved to Lanse, Pennsylvania where he attended the local schools. At 17-years old Roger proudly served his country in the Merchant Marines traveling across the Atlantic Ocean many times to bring supplies to the troops during World War II. During the Korean War Roger served in the United States Army, earning the rank of Sergeant First Class. After serving his country, Roger worked for Carborundum, in Niagara Falls, New York, while he attended night school at Buffalo State University of New York, where he graduated. A longtime resident of Glastonbury, Roger was employed by United Technologies where he received several patents for high temperature Fuel Cell materials until his retirement. After retirement, Roger's expertise and knowledge was in high demand and he consulted for the next 12 years. Roger was known for spending time with his sons as they grew up, enjoying fishing, hunting and coaching baseball and watching them play hockey. Roger during his retirement spent many summers with Gloria at their cabin in Maine and their winters in Jekyll Island with friends. Roger in his later years could be found in the stands enjoying the time spent watching his grandsons play hockey, wrestling and baseball, as well as, attending plays, graduations and award ceremonies for his three granddaughters, with Gloria by his side. Above all else, Roger adored his wife and family, and his legacy will live on through all of them. Along with his wife Gloria Emanuelson of Glastonbury, he leaves his children, Keith Emanuelson of Columbia, Maryland and his two children, Erik and Kristina; Brian and his wife Sandy of Middletown, and their two children, Christopher and Nicole; and Ron and his wife Marianna of Glastonbury and their two children Rachel and Ronnie, Jr. He also leaves his brother's wife Edie of Lanse, Pennsylvania, along with many nieces and nephew. He was predeceased by his older brother Marvin, and older sister, Carmen and her late husband William Little.

Family and friends may gather on Wednesday, (January 25th) from 4-7 p.m. at Glastonbury Funeral Home, 450 New London Turnpike, Glastonbury, CT. Thursday, (January 26th), a celebration of Roger's life will be held at First Church of Christ Congregational, 2183 Main Street, Glastonbury, at 10:30 a.m. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Green Cemetery on Hubbard Street in Glastonbury.
