

Roland I. Violette, 98, of East Hartford, beloved husband of the late Pauline Violette, passed away on Tuesday, January 14, 2014 at St. Francis Hospital. As a young man, he served in the (CCC) Civilian Conservation Corp then joined the U.S Army in 1942 proudly serving overseas in WWII.
Roland was a light hearted man who was a devoted husband and father. He brought stability to his family with his strong work ethic and church participation. He worked for Pratt & Whitney as a machinist for 35 years before his retirement. Known as a “Mr. Fix-it”, he loved tinkering around the house and the garage. He and Pauline enjoyed playing cards with friends and family and were Scrabble aficionados. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
Roland is survived by his three children, Lorraine Curran of Glastonbury, Roland “Jim” Violette and his wife Linda of East Hartford and Jacqueline Violette of East Hartford; his grandchildren, Lynn Kingsley and her husband Bill, John Uccello and his wife Rebecca, James Curran and his wife Maureen, Joseph Curran and his wife Angela and Ronald Violette; his great grandchildren, Jack & Izabella Uccello, Nathaniel and Madison Kingsley, Caitlin and Marin Curran, Lainey and William Curran and his two sisters.
Calling hours will be held on Thursday, January 16, 2014, from 4 to 7PM, at Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Ave., East Hartford. A Funeral service will be held on Friday, Jan. 17, at 11AM at Crossroads Community Cathedral, 1492 Silver Lane, East Hartford. Burial with full military honors will follow in Silver Lane Cemetery.
