
Sheila grew up in East Harford, Connecticut where she attended St. Mary’s Grammar School and Mount St. Joseph’s High School. After graduating from St. Francis School of Nursing she moved to Washington, DC, where she began her career at Children’s National Hospital. After many years of service, she then began work at Medstar Washington Hospital Center. She was a dedicated nurse and eventually retired as a highly respected nursing supervisor.
Sheila conducted city tours and loved the sites and memorials of the city. Shelia also volunteered her time weekly at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum as well as the National Museum of the American Indian. She was an avid reader, and she spent many summers in Ireland – never forgetting her Irish Heritage.
Sheila was a loyal fan and season ticket holder of the Capitols Hockey Team for over 50 years. She attended games, meet and greet events and even planned fan club trips and cruises for the fans and players. Hockey was a passion for Sheila.
Her friends were treasured deeply. She enjoyed being with them, going places and on adventures, she was faithful to always keeping in touch with each and every one of them.
Sheila was predeceased by her parents Phil and Bridget Tierney and her brother David. She is survived by her other brother Kevin and his wife Maryann. Shelia also leaves behind a nephew David and his wife Rose along with their children Aaron and Krista, along with her niece Jean and her children Amy and Laurie.
Aunt Sheila was devoted to three generations of nieces and nephews, planning beach trips, visits to DC and many days spent shopping or at a theme park. Children fill your heart with love and happiness, and she truly enjoyed her time with her great nieces Amy and Laurie and was even blessed to have many years with her great – great nieces and nephews - Kelsey, Camilla, Antonia, Mason and Molly. She will be truly missed by so many family and friends.
B.J. Callahan Funeral Home 318 Burnside Ave. East Hartford, CT. 06108 are assisting the family with services. Burial will be private at St. Mary’s Cemetery, East Hartford CT. at the convenience of the family.
