

Wilbert M. Brown Jr., 75, of East Hartford, peacefully passed away, surrounded by his loving and devoted family on Monday December 29, 2014. He was born in Altavista, VA, a son of the late Wilbert M. Sr. and Nannie (Fisher) Brown. He was a graduate of Leavenworth High School in his youth, and then was a Machinist for 32 years at United Technologies Corporation. He was a member of the Archer Memorial AME Zion Church in Windsor, CT, a Member of The Improved Benevolent Protective Order of Elks, Harmony Lodge #140 and Forgetmenot Temple #302 both in Springfield, MA. Mel was an avid bowler, a jokester, but most importantly a genuine friend. He is survived by his children, Keith, Antony and Arethea Brown, all of Syracuse, NY, Kimberly Brown of Stone Mountain, GA, Quentin Cundiff of Gadsden, AL and Quenell Cundiff and his wife Christine of East Hartford, his brother Oscar (Bobby) Brown of Syracuse, NY and two sisters Juanita Rountree of Waterbury and Alma Jean Ray of Syracuse, NY, nine grandchildren, two great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his brother Alvin Brown. Visiting hours at the Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Avenue, East Hartford, CT 06108, will be Sunday, January 4, 2015 from 1-3PM followed by the service of remembrance at 3PM.
