Born on July 6th, 1932, Bud grew up in the Detroit area and attended Redford High School where he met his wife, Carol, to whom he was married for 70 years. Bud went on to graduate in Business from The University of Michigan where he was affiliated with Sigma Phi Epsilon Fraternity. Bud then joined the military as a Naval Pilot for 5 ½ years where he flew P2V Neptune reconnaissance planes. Also, while teaching flying, he was recruited by the Navy to be manager of the Officer’s Club in Milton, Florida. Bud and Carol spent time in Spain, Maine, and Pensacola Florida while in the service. They met many lifelong friends in the Navy.
After the Service, Bud became a successful stockbroker and worked at Merrill Lynch, Prudential Securities, then retired from Wells Fargo at age 59.
Anyone who knew Bud understood his passion for the game of golf! Bud found solace and joy on the golf course, where his love for the game was also matched by his camaraderie with fellow enthusiasts, especially at the Country Club of Lansing where he was among the top golfers.
Beyond the fairways, Bud was a true connoisseur of automobiles, with his passion for classic cars. From his vintage Fiat and Morgan to his Mercedes 450SL and many more in between. He would wash his cars by hand almost every day and maintained them in pristine condition.
Bud was also an avid sports lover, especially watching the U of M games on TV. He could recite most every sports figure and stats of the games. A true fan!
Bud is survived by his loving wife Carol, and three daughters, Terry Chapman, Tracy (Scott) Franklin, Sandy Chapman, and beloved grandchildren, Ryan Tuttle, Chelsea Franklin (Mike Peay), Shawn Franklin and Isabelle Franklin.
Bud will be missed as well as his loyalty and love of his family, friends and his cherished dogs, Poppy and Ellie.
A celebration of Bud's life will be held at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home, 1730 E. Grand River Ave. East Lansing, MI on May 18th, 2024 with a visitation at 1pm and service at 2pm. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation, in Bud’s honor, to Capital Area Humane Society, Lansing Salvation Army, or a charity of your choice.
