Catheryn Anne Barrett was born, the only daughter of her parents, Clarence D. Barrett, Sr and his wife Cathryn A. Barrett on April 27, 1924 in Baltimore Heights, Maryland. She married James M. Harner on December 24, 1946. Kay and Jim raised four sons; Phil, Ken, Chris, and Charlie.
On September 25, 2021 Catheryn *Anne Harner, age 97, died of renal failure in her life long home of East Lansing, Michigan. Kay is survived by her sons Philip (Michaeline) of Lansing, MI, Christopher (Cynthia) of Pittsburgh, PA, and Charles (Letitia) of Fairhope, AL. She was preceded in death by her son Ken Harner of East Lansing, MI, and her husband of 60 years, Jim Harner of East Lansing, MI. She also leaves nine grandchildren Jenna (Art) Theusch, Philip, Amanda (Ian) Townsend, Christopher (Christina) Harner, Andrew Harner, Nina Harner, Jill Harner, Suzann (Mike) Ramos, and Melanie Harner. Kay was also great-grandmother to nine great-grandchildren.
She was an educator for East Lansing Public Schools retiring from the classroom in 1978. She loved being with family, enjoyed classical music (sang the Messiah with Robert Shaw chorale) and gardening. In her retirement she had a passion for researching family history. She joins her parents, C.D. Barrett, MD and Cathryn and her four brothers, Dale, Paul, Wayne and Bob in restful peace.
