

Dave was born at home on the farm in Bath, MI on December 12, 1931, to LaVere and Florence (Sweet) Harte. He graduated from Bath High School in 1949. His father died when he was 20 years old which helped to develop his very close relationship with his mother. In 1961 he built a house right next door to her on the family farm. Dave served in the US Army during the Korean War and for many years in the Michigan National Guard. He was a life member of VFW Post 671 in DeWitt and in Florida as well as being a life member of the Bath American Legion.
Dave worked at Oldsmobile as an experimental mechanic for 30 years, retiring in 1980. He also owned and operated Harte Enterprises from 1967 to 1984. He later went on to have a second career at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, retiring after 23 years at the age of 83. He loved people and never met a stranger and always found ways to meet a new friend.
He was preceded in death by his parents and beloved step-father, Roscoe M. Witchell; two brothers, Neil and LaVere Robert. He is survived by his children, Jerry and Diane Harte, Patti and Dick Seehase, Kathy Harte and Rob Reed, David and Barbara Green; grandchildren, James Horton, Emily and Quinn Merchand, Alison Harte and Jason Schacht, Alexandria and Brian Lueth, Jeffrey and Kristin Reed, and Michael Reed; great-grandchildren, Jack, Kate and Lila Horton, Jordyn and Brayden Lueth, Emily and Landon Reed, and Luke Merchand; nieces and nephews, Gail Wadell, Robert and Barbara Harte, Bruce and Janice Harte, Barbara Harte, Jim and Ellen Harte, Sheri and Steve Willis; many great-nieces and nephews, dear cousins, and special friend Pat Valone.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, February 21, 2023 at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes East Chapel, 1730 E. Grand River, East Lansing. The family will receive friends from 12:00 pm until the time of service. Interment with military honors will follow at Pleasant Hill Cemetery in Bath.
