

David John Matheson, age 59, formerly of Westland, went to be with his Lord on May 20, 2017 at the Laurels of Mount Pleasant. Dave was born on March 17, 1958 in Dearborn, the son of Robert and Violet (Erak) Matheson. After high school, David proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corp and then in the U.S. Army Reserve. After his service, he worked for 14 years as a mail carrier for the Postal Service and was later diagnosed with Parkinson’s disease. Dave loved baseball, especially the Detroit Tigers, he loved collecting baseball hats, bird watching, and before his illness, enjoyed physical fitness including swimming, running and biking. He was a believer in his Lord and savior, Jesus Christ, and enjoyed attending church when he was able,he also enjoyed watching “In Touch” with Charles Stanley on Sunday mornings. Dave is loved and survived by his father, Robert H. Matheson; his brother, Robert G. Matheson; his sister, Patricia (Timothy) Dolan; his cousins, Nancy Nodolsky, Tom Tataranowicz, Rosemary Erwin and Danny Tataranowicz, along with many friends and extended family. He was preceded in death by his mother; Violet Ann Matheson.
Funeral services will be held at 11am, Saturday June 3rd, at New Hope Church of Haslett, 1340 Haslett Road, with visitation one hour prior to the service. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be given to the National Parkinson’s Foundation 200 SE 1st Street Suite 800 Miami, FL 33131.
