Diane was a lifelong learner and dedicated educator. She earned a Bachelor of Arts in History from Michigan State University in 1969, followed by a Master of Arts in 1976. In 1983, she graduated magna cum laude with a Juris Doctor from Thomas M. Cooley Law School in Lansing, Michigan. Diane worked as an elementary school teacher in the Mason Public School District and later volunteered her time as a tax preparer for those unable to afford or navigate the process themselves. She also served as a tour guide at the Hall of Justice in downtown Lansing, sharing her knowledge with visitors.
Diane had a passion for gardening, travel, and reading. Her beautiful gardens were a reflection of her meticulous care and love for nature. She was known for her strong will, intelligence, honesty, and independence. Diane’s beloved dog Jack was a constant companion who brought her great joy.
She is survived by her sister Joanne Vivian Dyrkacz (Anthony T. Dyrkacz), nieces Kristine R. Butkus (Joseph) and Cynthia L. Dyrkacz, great-niece Nicole K. Hafner-Marlewski (Andrew), great-nephew Joseph A. Butkus, and many cherished friends.
A private memorial service will be held in her honor. Diane will be laid to rest at Evergreen Cemetery in Evergreen Park, Illinois.
Memorial contributions may be made to Planned Parenthood of Michigan or the Greater Lansing Food Bank in Diane’s memory. May her legacy of kindness and dedication continue to inspire all who knew her.
