Donna Faye Kopek

East Lansing, Michigan

Born October 1, 1938 in Larned, Kansas, the daughter of Lloyd Yourdon and Clara Kelly, passed away January 30, 2013 at the age of 74. Donna loved reading, her morning coffee, and completing her daily crosswords. She was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She always put others before herself. Donna had many enduring friendships and touched more lives than she realized. She was wonderful with children -neighbor children would naturally call her “Mama Donna” or “Aunt Donna.” Despite many health issues, she “weathered the storm” with strength and grace to the end of her life’s journey. She ended her journey at Sparrow Hospital with family at her side. She was preceded in death by her parents and one sister, Barbara Beth. Donna will be missed by those who survive her, including her loving husband, Henry Kopek; daughter, Gena (Dwayne) Sparks of Maumelle, Arkansas; son, Jason (Kristine) Kopek of Plainfield, Illinois; two grandchildren, Mitchell Sparks and Hannah Kopek. Also surviving to cherish her memory is one brother, Fred (Joyce) Yourdon of Reno, Nevada and one brother-in-law, Phil Beth of Chico, California as well as many nieces and nephews. A Memorial Visitation will be held at the Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home, East Chapel, 1730 East Grand River Avenue, East Lansing, MI on Friday, February 1, 2013 from 5-8 p.m. Those desiring may make contributions in Donna’s name to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation (JDRF), West Michigan Chapter, 5075 Cascade Road, S.E., Suite F, Grand Rapids, MI 49546.
