Eldora Rahe, 92, went home to be with her Lord on March 5, 2012, after a long and happy life, passing peacefully at home with her family. She was born September 13, 1919, the daughter of Fred and Theresa Wohlert and lived her entire life in Lansing. She attended Trinity Lutheran School, Eastern High School and Michigan State University before beginning her career as a hospital dietitian at Saginaw General Hospital. That was followed by her 52 year marriage to Andrew C. Rahe whom she met and married upon his return from World War II service.
She could be seen tending her large garden up until this year, a garden that every year brought joy and appreciation from many as they passed her corner lot. With the same intensity with which she nurtured her garden, she nurtured her family, putting them above all else. She was, without exception, the most loyal supporter and listening ear for her children and grandchildren. The matriarch of her family after her husband’s death in 1999, she was also “mom” and role model to many other friends and family members.
Eldora is preceded in death by her husband, Andy; her parents; and sister, Ruth Haslick. She will be deeply missed by her son, Bruce Rahe and his wife, Martha; son, Bryan Rahe and daughter, Krista Rahe and her husband, Terry Lumme. She loved her role as grandmother to Luke (Jennifer), Ann, Andrew (Karen) and Lynn; and great-grandmother to Nathan, Andy, Joe and Jack.
She was a charter member of Our Savior Lutheran Church and more recently attended University Lutheran Church. Memorials would be appreciated for Lutheran Indian Ministries, 3525 N. 124th Street, Suite 1, Brookfield, WI 53005 or to the National Federation for the Blind (410) 659-9314.
A private family graveside service will be held Saturday,March 10, 2012 at Evergreen Cemetery. A celebration of Eldora’s life will be held at a later date. The family is being served by Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes East Lansing, Michigan. On line condolences may be made at www.greastlansing.com.
