Fauzi Mitri Najjar

Fauzi Mitri Najjar, born December 19, 1920, in the village of Bishmizzine, Lebanon, passed away on October 26, 2015 in Lansing, Michigan. He earned a BA (’48) with distinction in political science from the American University of Beirut. Upon graduation, he came to the United States to pursue graduate degrees at the University of Chicago (MA '50, PhD '54). He also met his wife, Vivian Berquist at the University of Chicago and they were married in 1953. He taught at both his Alma Maters before accepting a teaching position with the College of Social Science at Michigan State University, where he spent the remainder of his academic teaching career. He was named a Distinguished Professor in 1973 and retired in 1987. He is survived by his wife, Vivian (Berquist) Najjar, his sons Mitri (Carmine) Najjar and Ameen (Elizabeth) Najjar, six grandchildren and a brother in Lebanon. Memorial to be held at the MSU Alumni Chapel, November 21, 10:30 am. In lieu of flowers, a gift in memory of Fauzi Najjar can be made to select departments at Michigan State University.
