Gerald Gary "Gary" Frank Marshall

Gary was born to Lyle and Virginia Marshall on March 6, 1920 and died April 16, 2010 at the age of 90. He lived in Lansing and East Lansing all of his life, graduating from East Lansing High School in 1938. He entered Michigan State College in the fall of that same year and was a member of Sigma Nu fraternity. He graduated from MSC in 1942 with a BA in business. At graduation, he was commissioned in the US Army and was sent to Fort Sill, OK. While there he and Beverly Doane of Lansing were married. Gary served four years in the Army, two and one half years in the Pacific Theater. He returned in 1946 and settled in East Lansing to join his father and brothers in the family business, the Lansing Grain Company.

Gary was a member of Peoples Church, the Lansing Lions Club, and was a long-time advocate of the YMCA and the Boy Scouts of America.

Gary was preceded in death by his parents and his older brother, Donald. He is survived by his wife of 68 years, his sister Betty Weaver (Harold), his brother Ken (Sue), his sister-in-law Mary, his four children David (Tricia), Christine, Julie, Jeff (Jill) and his four granddaughters, Jamie, Katie (Dan), Amanda, and Nicole.

Gary also had a larger extended family of loved ones at Clare Bridge Meridian Care Facility and Comfort Keepers of Lansing. These “family members” brought the family tremendous compassion, love, and tender care, and will never be forgotten. Gary was a man who was greatly loved and who will be greatly missed.

The family will receive friends Sunday, April 25, 3-6 p.m. at the Gorsline Runciman Funeral Home, 1730 E. Grand River Avenue, East Lansing. A memorial service will be held Monday, April 26, 11:00 a.m. at Peoples Church, 200 W. Grand River, East Lansing with the Rev. Dr. Harry H. Johnson officiating.
