He grew up in East Lansing Michigan and attended East Lansing High School until his Junior year, where he then transferred to Michigan Ave. School in Lansing, the first Alternative School in this area. After graduation he attended Michigan State University where he earned his BS degree in communications. Upon graduating from MSU he worked for ROLM Corporation for several years. He then started his own business, Array Information Systems. He was very successful and had many clients throughout Michigan.
Family was very important to Grant. Although he never married or had children of his own, he was a wonderful Uncle. He loved taking his nieces and nephews on adventures, cheering them on at their various sporting events and celebrating every accomplishment.
Grant’s happy place was anywhere along the shoreline of Lake Michigan. He loved to camp, backpack or just take day trips to one of the many State and County Parks. He liked to challenge his nieces and nephews to a race to the top of “Mt. Piska” at Holland State Park. He rarely won. Another love of Grant’s was sailing his boat, Alexa’s Cloud, on Muskegon Lake and on the big water of Lake Michigan. He valued the friendships and camaraderie he had at the Muskegon Yacht Club.
Grant was predeceased by his parents; grandparents, Fred and Jesse Johnson, Fred and Ellen Bowling and his beloved niece, Heather Parkinson. He is survived by his siblings, Ted (Susan) Johnson and Kristi (Erik) Smith; special niece, Jenny (Jesse) Reitz; nephews, Jeremy (Nikki) Gubry, Joseph (Katie) Smith, Teddy Johnson and Nik Parkinson; great nieces and nephews, Alexa, Emily and Jesse Reitz, T.J., Jet and Stella Johnson, Erik and (soon to be baby boy) Smith. Chris (Haley), Madison, Rylie and Luka Gubry. Special friend and his sister by choice Lisa Dawson.
