

Jean Schlater Kennedy of East Lansing, Michigan passed away on October 6th, 2017 at Burcham Hills Retirement Community. A native of West Virginia, she earned her B.A. and M.S. degrees in her home state, then went on to earn her Ph. D. in Family Economics and Management from Cornell University. After a short tenure teaching at the University of Nebraska, she came to Michigan State University in 1960, where she taught in the Department of Family and Child Ecology for over 35 years. She authored and co-authored over 40 publications during her distinguished teaching career.
Jean was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert W. Schlater after more than 30 years of marriage. She is survived by her son Mark (Beth) and grandchildren Kathryne and John. Jean was also preceded in death by her second husband, W. Henry Kennedy, whom she married in 1999. Funeral services will be held at Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, East Chapel on Wednesday October 11th at noon. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service. Private burial to follow at East Lawn Memory Gardens. Donations in lieu of flowers to the Jean Davis Schlater Dissertation Fellowship through the Department of Human Development and Family Studies at Michigan State University.
